Public foreshore

Public
foreshore

The public domain is the first part of the Blackwattle Bay redevelopment to move into detailed planning – because we want to open up the water's edge to the community as early as possible, and we'd love your input to help shape it.

The designs below are proposals that will continue to evolve as we move through the planning process and hear more from our stakeholders and the broader community.

Our vision is to reconnect people with the harbour through a generous public foreshore that draws on the natural character of Blackwattle Bay. The proposed design creates a variety of spaces along the water's edge – places to walk, pause, gather and enjoy the bay.

Proposed foreshore design

Around 26,000 square metres of proposed new public space is planned for the precinct – including the creation of an 'outdoor living room' for the community that would reconnect this part of Sydney Harbour for the first time in generations.

As part of the proposed foreshore design, we've been working with the community to explore ideas including:

  • Green spaces, planting and trees
  • Walkability and connectivity
  • Water recreation
  • Events and activations
  • Family and kid-friendly activities
  • Public art and culture
  • Safety and lighting
  • Seating and comfort
  • Workshops and education

We heard strong feedback from the community on what they would like to see in the new public spaces at Blackwattle Bay.

Pre-lodgement consultation closed on Tuesday 23 June 2026. You can find a summary of what we’ve heard in the materials below.
